Suite X by Bram Stadhouders is a collection of eight original baroque music tracks for today’s ears. Is this the product of a jam session of Stadhouders with Nils Frahm, Arve Henriksen and a reincarnated JS Bach? No, this is the result of his unorthodox collaboration with the out-of-the-box thinkers of Baroque Orchestration X. B.O.X is a Flemish baroque ensemble that mostly collaborates with acts from the indie pop scene, like their recent team-ups with Dez Mona, Efterklang or Spinvis. A dream team, in other words, when it comes to the blending of different musical worlds.
Suite X is a homage by Stadhouders to the soothing baroque sound, which he skilfully blends, in a way that is both logical and surprising, with the sound of the electric guitar and live electronics. As a soundscape one time, or a catchy groove the next, but definitely also as lyrical melodies that instantly get stuck in your head. A masterful feat in which present, past, electronic music, acoustic music and the art of improvisation from the rich baroque and jazz traditions all converge.
