There is much to enjoy and laugh about in Stand Up Bass. In this performance, master double bass player Dominic Seldis combines stunning music with funny stories about his instrument – within the context of classical music but he also crosses into other musical territories like jazz and tango. Seldis is best known as a member of the jury of ‘Maestro’ and presenter of various TV programmes. He combines his role as principal double bass at the orchestra of the Royal Concertgebouw with virtuoso solo concerts around the globe. His musical partner Jan-Willem Rozenboom, talented classical pianist and regular composer for Guus Meeuwis, holds the audience in his grip with virtuoso improvisations. Together, they present a wonderful afternoon’s entertainment filled with music and British humour.
'Musical entertainment of the highest calibre. Seldis is charming and (…) as a musician, very serious.’ (Het Parool). ‘Fingers raced up and down the strings from top to bottom and back again. (…) True acrobatics.’ (Trouw). ‘A fantastic duo who bring magnificent music closer to the people with infectious fun.’ (Haarlems Dagblad).
