Since 2013 The Erlkings have been changing the way we look at art song in general and the songs of Franz Schubert in particular. From the Wiener Konzerthaus to the Wigmore Hall in London, The Erlkings have been sharing their fresh vision of Schubert and other great Lieder composers all over Europe, leaving enthusiastic new Lieder lovers in their wake. Voice, guitar, cello, tuba and percussion come together to tell the stories of Schubert's songs with new energy and a modern musical vocabulary. The critically acclaimed English translations by lead singer and guitarist Bryan Benner catapult the songs from the early 1800's into the 21st century. After recording their first album of selected Schubert songs such as "Erlkönig" and "Auf dem Wasser zu singen" in 2016, The Erlkings went on to record Schubert's legendary song cycle "Die schöne Müllerin" in 2018. Branching away from Schubert for the first time, a recording of Robert Schumann's "Dichterliebe" is planned for 2019.
